We often hear about the importance of **gut microbiota**, but how much do we really know about the microorganisms we consume daily with our food?

**When you eat a leaf of lettuce**, **what bacteria are you introducing into your body**?

To answer these questions, a research team from the University of Turin aimed to **understand and predict**leaf-associated **microbial communities**for the benefit of both plant and human health by exploring how**genetic distance**, **morphology and nutrient content** of lettuce leaves i**nfluence their bacterial communities.**
